A young girl and her dog are walking along the A846 near The Kidalton Cross on The Island of Islay, Scotland
Known as "The Whisky Isle," Islay (pr: EYE-luh) is home to 9 distilleries producing Single Malt Scotch. Known for some of the peatiest flavors in the whisky universe, the A848 road from Port Ellen leads along the southern shore, past Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg, before eventually reaching the Caol Isla distillery. Along the way you pass the Kidlaton Cross and churchyard. The Kildalton Cross was carved in the 700s, and is every inch the equal of the great high crosses of Iona. And if you look around you, you just might see this kind of scene, what I call "Rush Hour on Islay."
